Russia’s Ambassador and Senegalese Prime Minister arrived on board of Sedov

Sedov sailing vessel is on its three-day visit to capital of the Republic of Senegal.
On May 22 in Dakar the representative of Federal Agency for Fisheries of the Russian Federation in Senegal Alexander Biryukov became one of the first who met Russian sailors after 20-day passage from Namibia to Senegal. He informed the captain Nikolai Zorchenko that in the evening many guests would participate in traditional reception held in honor of visit of world’s largest sailing ship.
During meeting in the port the representative of Federal Agency for Fisheries told, that cadets and crewmembers could take part in excursion around Senegalese capital, visit unique natural phenomenon Pink Lake, where the salinity of water exceeds salinity in the world’s most famous reservoir, the Dead Sea. According to Alexander Biryukov, local entrepreneurs proposed help in organizing of these cultural events, and gave to Russian sailors two free of charge excursion buses.
At 6 PM local time on May 22 (10 PM Moscow time) Russian delegation headed by Russia’s Ambassador in Senegal Valery Nesterushkin visited Sedov sailing ship. The guests were met by the parade formation of cadets stood near the gangway, and on the deck. At the same time Senegalese delegation had arrived. Because of the working trip of President Macky Sall, Senegalese delegation was headed by Prime Minister Abdul Mbaye. Mr. Mbaye, who was accompanied by Minister for Fisheries, the representatives of local civil and military authorities, and the heads of diplomatic missions of the foreign countries in Senegal, had climbed on board.
Visit to Senegal is second in the post-war history of the vessel. Dakar became first foreign port of call of Soviet Sedov training sailing ship. Historical visit was made 55 years ago, in 1958.
Despite fact that an area of Dakar port where Sedov was moored is an area of strict border control, the guests and residents of Senegalese capital are permitted to visit Sedov during one day. On May 23 from 10 AM to 6 PM Sedov will open its gangway. The cadets of maritime schools of Senegal will be among visitors of legendary Russian ship.
After arrival into port water was bunkered, and also 12 tons of food was loaded on Sedov. In the afternoon on May 24 Sedov will start its passage from Dakar to Santa Cruz de Tenerife. Over six days the ship will have covered 860 nautical miles.

The voyage is devoted to 1150th anniversary of Russian statehood and memorable dates in the history of Russian geographical discoveries. The legendary ship for the first time is sailing a voyage of such scale in 92 years of its history. Over 14 months the ship will cover almost 45000 nautical miles and visit more than 30 ports in Europe, Asia, Africa and America.
